spcaLA Chihuahuas Airlifted to Denver by Pet Airways

Los Angeles CA – Thirty five Chihuahuas from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) will board a plane on New Year’s Eve bound for Denver, Colorado. The Chihuahuas are getting a free ride from Los Angeles to Denver courtesy of Dr. Leslie Capin, generous donor and animal lover.

The Chihuahuas will board on Pet Airways on Thursday December 31st at 8am at Hawthorne Municipal Airport / Los Angeles Executive Airport, 3750 120th St. Hawthorne, CA 90250.

Because Chihuahuas are the most popular breed in Los Angeles, spcaLA has more Chihuahuas than any other type of dog. This has been the case for the past three years and the numbers are growing annually. Denver has an abundance of larger dogs and plenty of people interested in adopting small breeds. The Chihuahuas will be sent from spcaLA on Pet Airways to the Dumb Friends League, located in Denver.

When news of the glut of Chihuahuas in California shelters broke, people from all over the country contacted spcaLA asking how they could adopt.

“A conscientious donor recognized the need and saw a way to help communities in both states,” says Madeline Bernstein, spcaLA President. “By moving the supply to the demand, we are negating the need for purchasing from an unscrupulous backyard breeder or puppy mill and reducing the current population of Chihuahuas.”

"We are so happy to be able to assist in this airlift," said Alysa Binder, Pet Airways Co- Founder, "It is part of our company mission to help more adoptable pets find loving homes."

spcaLA encourages people to first research breeds to assist in selecting a pet that fits best with their lifestyle. Every dog has a different personality, so meeting dogs before adoption and asking questions of adoption counselors can help make the right match.
