Pet Airways

Pet Airways is the brainchild of Dan and Alysa Wiesel. In 2001 they found themselves traveling back and forth to Florida from California, but Zoe, their Jack Russell Terrier was a bit too big to fit under the seat. After a tense-filled trip with Zoe in cargo, Dan said there has to be a better way, and the idea of Pet Airways was born.

Today, we no longer fly in a pets-only configuration. We do however offer private chartered flight where you and your pet can fly together. You, a mate or two, and your pets, all aboard a plane that takes off when you want to take off and flies to a local airport close to your destination. The planes are small, but the experience is amazing. And of course your pet is right there with you.

A Special Alaskan Dog

This week I had an incredible experience on my trip to Alaska. On our way back from Denali National Park we stopped in Wasilla, just outside of Anchorage, at the headquarters of the Iditarod. After scouring the gift shop for the usual trinkets we went to see the Iditarod huskies.  I had the joy of holding and playing with 3 huskie puppies. We also met Earl the full grown husky. What a treat.

Aggressive Dog Breeds and Airline Policies

Recently, there was a posting on Facebook regarding a military family that was relocated to another base. The posting went on to say that the military contracts with a certain airline for the relocation, but the airline had a policy of not accepting “aggressive breeds” of dogs. This family had an “aggressive breed” dog.

When Pet Airways was up, flying and transporting pets, we faced this same issue and early on we set up a policy that we did not discriminate against any pet, no matter what breed.
